A different exercise routine will keep your body guessing and adapting, so you might be sore in areas you never felt before. Kickboxing will switch up your workout and result in body toning and an increasing in cardio endurance. Those two results are what everyone wants from their workout. Our classes are all non contact so you can train exactly like a fighter without ever having to stress that clients in your office will think you’re beaten at home. The only thing you’ll be punching is a boxing bag or focus mitts. Lets break down our 1 hour cardio kickboxing session at WFC.
Warm up and Stretching
We blast some beats on the stereo and then begin our warmup. Have a high energy feel in the bag rack before we start. Then we will do some light stretching and either sprint some laps around the mat or jump rope. We want to get the muscles warm and loose to get the most out of the rest of class.
Bag Work
Now its time to hit stuff! We glove up and get ready to go. Our bag system holds thirty heavy bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you want to feel your fist move something when you throw a blow. Hitting bags is the best stress reliever. There’s nothing more soothing then winding up and hitting a heavy bag as hard as you can and putting life’s problems on the back burner for the 60 minutes of class. The instructor will show you a combination that you’ll do for the whole round and try to get it right before you get out of breathe. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to show you the next round’s combo. After a few classes you will start to appear like you know how to kick some butt. The more classes you take the better you will get, new members think a couple of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are fighters, thats how awesome their kickboxing has become.
Pad work
Following a few rounds on the boxing bags we then partner members and give you focus mitts or a kick shield. One girl will hold pads for their partner. We split it up into beginner and more advanced students so the newer girls have simpler more basic combinations while the more experienced kick boxers get longer more advanced combos. Don’t think that holding for a partner is time to slack, in your first session you’ll realize very quick that holding pads is almost as tough as hitting them.
Crunch Time
The whole body motion of throwing a punch or kick already gives you an amazing ab and core workout. We still make time to work on our ladies’ midsections and do some abdominal training. bicycles, side planks, med ball throws,.
and twists make you feel the burn and get your tummy toned for summer.
Finishing Strong
And your first training session is done. Some light stretching and some words of encouragement from your fellow students for making it through your first of many classes here at Westchester MMA. a full class of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a treadmill , or riding a bike.
