The benefits of changing your routine is worth the new aches and pains. Kickboxing will switch up your workout and result in body toning and an increasing in cardiovascular endurance. What more can you want from your workouts? You will exercise like a fighter without the concern of getting hit because our Women’s Only Cardio Kickboxing Classes are non contact. So rather than sparring with other students, the only thing you’ll be attacking is our equipment or pads. I will walk you through a standard class at Westchester MMA.


Warming Up


We blast some music on the speakers and then begin our warmup. We need to get the atmosphere and energy level up to start. Then we will do some light stretching and run some laps around the gym or jump rope. We want to get the muscles warm and loose in order to get the most from the rest of class.


Time to Hit Stuff


Time to hit stuff! We glove up and get ready to go. At Westchester MMA we have a bag mat with 30 punching bags, so every person in class can have their own. Hitting bags is a great stress reliever. There’s nothing more fun then winding up and punching a punching bag as hard as you can and placing life’s problems on the back burner for the sixty minutes of class. The instructor will give you a combo that you’ll practice for the whole round and attempt to get it right before you get too tired. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to teach the next round’s combination. After a couple of classes you will begin to look like you know what you are doing. You’ll most likely feel a bit uncoordinated and off balance in the first workout, regardless of your fitness level. Since the challenging moves will be different for your body, not just your brain. Though the combos usually are made up of pretty basic combos, when all is said and done, it is a technique that gets easier with practice. Plan to give your body 3 or 4 sessions before you feel like you know the techniques. Most routines blend the same general techniques in a different order or portion of the combination.


Now we do partner drills. Don’t worry you are not striking each other but you will hold pads or focus mitts for each other. Now you get to imitate a trainer holding pads for their fighter then switch off and end up being the fighter striking the pads. Don’t get discouraged either, just like it takes a few classes to feel balanced and smooth striking the pads and boxing bags, the same thing can be said for learning to hold pads. At your second or 3rd session it will be a breeze for you.


Ab Round


Your abdominals will definitely be feeling all the kicks and punches you’ve thrown. We still take time to train our ladies’ midsections and do some abdominal training. sizzors, Planking, medicine ball throws,.

and twists make you feel the burn and get you ready for bikini season.


Now its time to pick up some dumbbells. Now its time to finish strong and push through class is almost finished. Our women also exercise with some weights in class. Pounding on the bag and holding pads already have your arms cooked but there is no whining now if you want tight and defined shoulders, back, and arms.


Finishing Strong

Good job, you made it through your first class. Some light stretching and some words of encouragement from your trainers for making it through your first of many workouts here at Westchester MMA. an hour of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a treadmill machine , or riding a bike.
