Warm Up Routine
We start class with five minutes of dynamic stretching and afterwards jump rope. Three 3 minute rounds of jump rope and in-between rounds we do some squats and pushups. By starting with 15 minutes of stretching and warm-up movements you will get more from your body for the next 45 minutes of class.
Time to Hit Stuff
Right now its time to put on our gloves and start punching stuff. Our bag system holds thirty punching bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you need to feel your fist strike something when you throw a blow. Punching is a great stress reliever. There’s nothing more fun then winding up and smashing a boxing bag as hard as you can and placing life’s drama on the back burner for the hour of class. The trainer will show you a combo that you will do for the entire round and try to perfect before you get out of breathe. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to teach you the next round’s combination. After a couple of classes you’ll begin to appear like you know what you are doing. The more you train the better you will get, new members think a few of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are fighters, thats how good their kickboxing has gotten.
Buddy Drills
Now we do partner drills. Its not to make you square off with your parnter, now will hold mitts for each other. Now you and your partner will look like a coach and their boxer, and you’ll get to swap and play both roles. You might feel a little awkward but don’t worry, it takes a few workouts to get your moves down, both for smacking pads and for being a good partner and holding them. At your 2nd or third class it will be a no-brainer for you.
Abdominals
Time for abdominals, even though without knowing it you have been training your abdominals the whole entire workout, corkscrewing your body on strikes and kicking. Now we do some ab moves. planking, bicycles, and russian twists, all fun stuff. Building the core will really help your techniques get better, develop your strength and conditioning, and it’ll start to show your 6 pack abs.
