Warm Up Routine
We blast some beats on the stereo system and then start our stretches. Get a high energy buzz in the bag rack before we start. Then we’ll do some light stretching and also sprint some laps around the gym or jump rope. We need to get the muscles warm and loose to get the most from the rest of the workout.
Working on the Boxing Bags
Its time to punch stuff! We glove up and get ready to work. Our bag area holds 30 heavy bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you need to feel your fist strike something when you throw a blow. Beating the crap out of a punching bag and pretending its your manager or ex is the best stress relief. The coach will give you a combination that you’ll do for the full round and try to get it right before you get too tired. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just long enough to teach the next round’s combo. After a couple of classes you will start to look like you know what you’re doing. The more you train the better you will become, a lot of new clients think some of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are fighters, thats how awesome their kickboxing has gotten.
After a few rounds on the boxing bags we then pair up members and give you boxing pads or a kick shield. Now we do partner exercises with one student holding mitts while the other is punching, kicking, bobbing, and weaving. We divide the class into new girls and more advanced girls so the new girls have easier more basic combos while the more advanced kick boxers get longer more advanced combinations. In your very first class you will find out that holding for a partner isn’t a break. Its pretty much just as challenging as hitting them.
Time for Abs
Your abs will definitely be feeling all the kicks and punches you have thrown. We still make time to work on our ladies’ tummies and do some ab work. sizzors, Planks, med ball throws,.
and twists help to make you feel the burn and get your tummy ready for bikini season.
Almost Done!
We finish our classes with some stretching and high fives for finishing strong. In an hour of kickboxing you burned more calories than you could running on a treadmill machine , stationary bike, or lifting weights.
