Get Ready to Work
Our class begins with high energy music, whatever we are in the mood for that day, Rock, EDM, or some 90′s pop. We need to get the mood and energy level up to get started. Then we will do some light stretching and possibly run some laps around the mat or jump rope. We break a sweat and elevate your heart rate to get the most from your workout and help prevent injury.
Bag Work
Time to hit stuff! We glove up and get ready to work. At Westchester MMA we have a bag rack with 30 hanging bags, so everyone in class can have their own. Hitting stuff is a great stress reliever. There’s nothing better then winding up and punching a heavy bag as hard as you can and putting life’s drama on the back burner for the 60 mins of class. We aren’t just striking the boxing bag aimlessly, the trainer will take you through several combos using punches, knees, and kicks. The more you train the better you will get, a lot of new students think a couple of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are competitors, thats how awesome their striking has become.
Pad work
When we finish on the heavy bags we switch it up and have you pair up with another girl in class. One student will hold for their partner. We divide the class into beginner and more advanced girls so the newer members have simpler more basic combinations while the more experienced kick boxers get longer more intricate combinations. In your very first class you’ll see that holding for a partner isn’t a break. Its nearly just as tough as punching them.
Time for Abs
The entire body mechanics of throwing a punch or kick already gives you an amazing ab and core workout. We still make time to train our ladies’ stomaches and do some abdominal training. To get our kickboxers ready for the beach we’ll do all different exercises to help you get back in that swimsuit.
Last part of class we will have each member pick up a set of weights and do shoulder, arms, and lower body movements. This is a great way to build muscle while making your body to burn some extra calories. Using both cardio and weights in the same workout will help build shape and definition in your arms, back, and shoulders. Boxing will help define your arms but after a few rounds on the bag rack getting a set of dumbbells and following along with the group will help you achieve the firm and toned arms you’re looking for.
The Home Stretch
Good job, you made it through your first class. Props for pushing it and making it through. 60 minutes of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a running machine , or riding a bike.
