Warm Up Routine
We blast some beats on the stereo system and then begin our stretches. Have a high energy feel in the room before we get going. Then we’ll do some light stretching and also run some laps around the gym or jump rope. We need to get the muscles warm and loose in order to get the most out of the rest of the workout.
Bag Work
Now its time to hit stuff! We glove up and get ready to go. At Westchester MMA we have a bag mat with 30 hanging bags, so every student in class can have their own. Pounding the crap out of a punching bag and acting like its your boss or ex boyfriend is a great stress reliever. We aren’t just blasting the boxing bag aimlessly, the teacher will take you through several combos working with punches, knees, and kicks. You will most likely feel a little uncoordinated and off balance in your first session, no matter what your fitness level. Considering that the demanding moves will be different for your body, not just your brain. Though the combinations usually are made up of basic combos, when all is said and done, it is a routine that improves with time. Plan to give your body 3 or 4 classes before you feel comfortable with the techniques. All sessions blend the same basic movements in a different order or part of the combination.
Pad work
When we are all done on the heavy bags we switch it up and will have you pair up with another student in class. Now we do partner drills with one student holding punching pads while the other is punching, kicking, bobbing, and weaving. We divide the class into new girls and more advanced girls so the newer girls have simpler more basic combos while the more advanced kick boxers get longer more advanced combos. Don’t for a second think that holding for a partner is time to slack, in your first workout you’ll see very quick that holding pads is almost as tough as hitting them.
Core Training and Calisthenics
Your abdominals will definitely be feeling all the kicks and punches you have thrown. We still stop punching and kicking to work on our ladies’ midsections and do some ab training. sizzors, side planks, med ball slams,.
and twists help to make you feel the burn and get your tummy toned for the beach.

And your first training session is done. Props for pushing it and making it through. 60 minutes of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, jogging on a fitness treadmill, or riding a bike.
