A different workout routine will keep your body guessing and changing, so you might be sore in areas you never felt before. Get shreded and in the best shape since highschool. Those two things are what everyone wants from their workouts. You will practice like a fighter without the fear of getting hit because our Women’s Only Cardio Kickboxing Classes are non contact. The only thing you’ll be punching is a bag or kickboxing pads. Lets break down our 1 hour session at Westchester MMA.
The first 15 minutes
Our class begins with high energy music, whatever we are in the mood for that day, Rock, EDM, or some 90′s pop. We have to get the state of mind and energy level up to get going. Whatever the teacher chooses that day much like the radio, we will warm up with some stretching, jogging, or jump rope. We need to get the muscles warm and loose in order to get the most out of the rest of class.
Time to De-stress
Right now we put on our gloves and start hitting stuff. Our bag rack holds 30 heavy bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you want to feel your fist move something when you throw a blow. Hitting stuff is the best stress reliever. There’s nothing better then winding up and smashing a punching bag as hard as you can and putting life’s problems on mute for the hour of class. The teacher will give you a combo that you will do for the whole round and attempt to perfect before you get too tired. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just long enough to teach the next round’s combo. After a couple of classes you will begin to look like you know what you are doing. You’ll most likely seem a bit uncoordinated and off base in your first class, no matter what your fitness level. Considering that the difficult techniques will be different for your body, not just your brain. Though the rounds usually are made up of fairly basic combinations, when all is said and done, it is a technique that improves with practice. Plan to give yourself 3 or 4 classes before you feel like you know the techniques. Most workouts mix the same general techniques in a different order or portion of the combination.
Now we do buddy drills. Don’t worry you are not attacking each other but you will hold pads or focus mitts for the other person. Now you get to imitate a trainer holding pads for his fighter then switch off and end up being the fighter striking the pads. You might feel a little like a spazz at first but don’t fret, it takes a few classes to get your technique down, both for smacking thai pads and for being a good partner and holding them. At your second or 3rd kickboxing class it will be a cakewalk for you.
Crunch Time
Time for abdominals, even though without realizing it you have been training your abdominals the full workout, turning your body on punching and kicking. Now we do some core work. planking, bicycles, and russian twists, all fun stuff. Developing the core will assist your movements get better, build your strength and endurance, and it’ll start to show your six pack abs.
Cool off
Good job, you made it through your first class. Some light stretching and some words of encouragement from your fellow students for making it through your first of many classes here at WFC. an hour of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, jogging on a treadmill machine , or riding a bike.
