A different training routine will keep your body guessing and changing, so you might be sore in areas you never felt before. Get ripped and in the best shape since highschool. What more could you want from your workouts? Our classes are all non contact so you can train just like a fighter without ever having to worry that co workers in your office will think you’re beaten at home. So instead of sparring with other students, the only thing you’ll be beating up is our heavy bags or thai pads. I will take you through a typical session at Westchester MMA.
The first 15 minutes
Dynamic Stretching for five minutes and afterwards right into jumping rope. Jump along to high energy music for 3 three minute rounds with some calisthenics between rounds. Priming your body by breaking a light sweat will help you get the most out of the rest of class.
Time to De-stress
Now we strap up our boxing gloves and start hitting stuff. At Westchester Cardio Kickboxing we have a bag mat with 30 punching bags, so everyone in class can have their own. Beating the crap out of a heavy bag and pretending its your manager or ex is a great stress reducer. The coach will show you a combo that you will work on for the entire round and try to get it right before you get too tired. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just long enough to teach the next round’s combo. After a couple of classes you’ll start to look like you know what you’re doing. You will probably feel a bit uncoordinated and off balance in your first class, no matter what your fitness level. Considering that the difficult moves will be different for your body, not just your brain. Though the rounds usually are fairly basic combos, when all is said and done, it is a technique that improves with time. Plan to give yourself 3 or 4 sessions before you feel like you know the movements. Most classes mix the same general movements in a different order or portion of the combination.
Partner Up
Now we do buddy drills. Its not to make you square up with one another, now will hold mitts for each other. Now you get to pretend to be a trainer holding mitts for his fighter then change off and turn into the fighter striking the mitts. Don’t get discouraged either, just like it takes a few sessions to feel balanced and smooth punching the pads and heavy bags, the same thing can be said for learning to hold pads. By your 2nd or 3rd kickboxing class it will be a piece of cake for you.
Gut buster time
Time for abdominals, even though without knowing it you have been exercising your abs the entire class, corkscrewing your body on strikes and kicks. That being said, a complete kickboxing workout should include strengthening the stomach and back muscles through workouts as crunches, sizzors, and planking. All power comes from your core so this part will help you out in future sessions.
Cool Down
Good job, you made it through your first class. Some light stretching and some words of encouragement from your fellow students for making it through your first of many classes here at Westchester MMA. an hour of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a treadmill , or riding a bike.
