Stretching and Jump Rope
Our warmup begins with high energy music, whatever we feel like that day, Rock, EDM, or some 90′s pop. Get a high energy vibe in the room before we start. What ever the instructor decides on that day the same as the music, we will warm up with some stretching, jogging, or jump rope. We want to get the muscles warm and loose to get the most out of the rest of class.
Working on the Boxing Bags
Its time to punch stuff! We glove up and get ready to go. At Westchester MMA we have a bag rack with 30 hanging bags, so everyone in class can have their own. Beating the crap out of a punching bag and pretending its your manager or ex boyfriend is a great stress relief. We aren’t just clobbering the boxing bag aimlessly, the coach will take you through various combinations using punches, knees, and kicks. The more classes you take the better you will get, new clients think a couple of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are fighters, thats how good their technique has become.
Pad work
Now we do partner drills. Its not to make you square up with your parnter, now will hold pads for each other. Now you get to pretend to be a trainer holding mitts for their fighter then switch off and turn into the fighter hitting the mitts. You might feel a little awkward but don’t fret, it only takes a few workouts to get your moves down, both for smacking pads and for being a good partner and holding them. By your next or 3rd class it will be a no-brainer for you.
Abdominals
The whole body mechanics of throwing a punch or kick already gives you an amazing ab and core workout. In our workouts we still take the time to work on our core and do some ab work. To get our kickboxers ready for summertime we’ll do all different abdominal training to help you get back in that swimsuit.
The Home Stretch
Congrats, you dominated it and finished your 1st class.
