The rewards of switching your routine is well worth the new aches and pains. Kickboxing will switch up your workout and lead to body toning and an increasing in cardio stamina. Warming Up
We begin class with 5 minutes of dynamic stretching and jump rope. Jump to high energy music for three three minute rounds with some exercises between rounds. Priming your body by breaking a light sweat will help you get the most out of the rest of class.
Working on the Boxing Bags
Time to punch stuff! We glove up and get ready to go. At WFC we have a bag area with 30 bags, so every person in class can have their own. Hitting stuff is a great stress reliever. There’s nothing more relaxing then winding up and hitting a boxing bag as hard as you can and turning life’s issues on the back burner for the 60 minutes of class. We aren’t just whacking the heavy bag aimlessly, the coach will take you through different combos using punches, knees, and kicks. The more you train the better you will get, new members think a couple of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are fighters, thats how awesome their kickboxing has become.
Buddy Drills
At this point we have the class partner up. Its not to make you square off with your parnter, now will hold mitts for each other. Now you and your partner will appear to be a coach and their fighter, and you’ll get to swap and play both roles. Don’t get discouraged either, just like it takes a few classes to feel balanced and smooth striking the pads and heavy bags, the same thing can be said for learning to hold pads. By your second or third workout it will be a piece of cake for you.
Crunch Time
The core of your body, includes the abdominals and lower back muscles, will get an unintentional workout just by performing the punches and kickboxing exercises. Even so, a complete kickboxing workout should include training the core and lower back through such exercise as leg raises, bicycles, and planking. All strength comes from your core so these exercises will help you out in future sessions.
The Home Stretch
And your first training session is done. Props for pushing it and making it through. an hour of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a fitness treadmill, or riding a bike.
