Tips on how to effectively punch, kick, and knee to maximize power and speed. Just because our teachers are fighters doesn’t mean you will have to fight. There is no contact in any of our cardio kickboxing classes so you won’t ever have to worry about having a scar on your beautiful face. Let me give you the run down of a kickboxing class at Westchester MMA.
Get Ready to Work
We begin class with five mins of dynamic stretching and then jump rope. Jump to high energy music for 3 3 minute rounds with some exercises between rounds. By beginning with 15 minutes of stretching and warm-up calisthenics you will get more out of your body for the next 45 mins of class.
Working on the Boxing Bags
Right now we strap up our boxing gloves and start hitting stuff. Our bag area holds 30 punching bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you need to feel your fist hit something when you throw a strike . Hammering the crap out of a heavy bag and acting like its your compliance officer or ex boyfriend is a great stress relief. The instructor will show you a combination that you will do for the whole round and attempt to perfect before you get out of breathe. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to teach the next round’s combination. After a few classes you will begin to appear like you know how to kick some butt. The more classes you take the better you will get, a lot of new members think some of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are competitors, thats how good their kickboxing has gotten.
Buddy Drills
When we finish on the bags we switch it up and have you pair up with another member in class. One student will hold pads for another. New members will have easier combinations while our students that have been with us longer have more difficult combinations. Don’t for a second think that holding for a partner is a break, in your first workout you will discover very quick that holding pads is almost as tough as hitting them.
Crunch Time
The core of your body, includes the stomach and lower back muscles, will get an unintended work out just by doing the punching and kickboxing exercises. Right now we do some ab exercises. side planks, sizzors, and russian twists, all fun stuff. Building the core will really help your punches improve, build your power and conditioning, and it’ll start to show your 6 pack abs.
Finishing Strong
Congrats, you dominated it and killed your very first class.
