Kickboxing brings you a sense of confidence. You’ll be taught how to defend yourself all while losing weight and getting in awesome shape. How to effectively punch, kick, and knee to optimize power and speed. Just because our coaches are fighters doesn’t mean you will have to fight. There is no contact in any of our cardio kickboxing classes so you won’t ever have to worry about having a mark on your beautiful face. I’ll give you a breakdown of a kickboxing class here at WFC.
Stretching/Warm-up
We start class with five minutes of dynamic stretching and then jump rope. Jump to high energy music for 3 3 minute rounds with some exercises in-between rounds. By beginning with 15 minutes of stretching and warming up movements you will get more out of your muscles for the next 45 mins of class.
Bag Work
Right now we strap up our gloves and start punching stuff. At Westchester Fight Club we have a bag area with 30 bags, so every student in class can have their own. Hitting stuff is a great stress reliever. There’s nothing more soothing then winding up and hitting a bag as hard as you can and putting life’s issues on mute for the hour of class. The teacher will give you a combination that you will work on for the full round and attempt to get it right before you get too tired. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to teach the next round’s combination. After a few classes you’ll begin to appear like you know what you are doing. The more you train the better you will become, a lot of new members think some of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are fighters, thats how good their technique has become.
Now we do partner drills. Don’t worry you are not striking each other but you will hold pads or focus mitts for one another. Now you and your workout buddy will look like a trainer and their fighter, and you will get to swap and play both sides. You might feel a little like a spazz at first but don’t stress, it only takes a few classes to get your moves down, both for striking thai pads and for being a good partner and holding them. After your first or second class it’ll be a breeze .
Time for Abs
Your abdominals will already be feeling all the kicks and punches you have thrown. In our classes we still take the time to work on our core and do some ab movements. To get you ready for summer we’ll do all different ab work to help you get back in that swimsuit.
The Home Stretch
Good job, you made it through your first class. Props for pushing it and making it through. 60 minutes of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a treadmill machine , or riding a bike.
