Tips on how to effectively punch, kick, and knee to optimize power and speed. Just because our teachers are fighters doesn’t mean you will have to fight. There is no contact in any of our cardio kickboxing classes so you won’t ever have to worry about having a bruise on your beautiful face. I will give you a rundown of a typical class here at Westchester Cardio Kickboxing.
Warm Up Routine
Our class begins with high energy music, whatever we are in the mood for that day, Rock, EDM, or some 90′s pop. We have to get the vibe and energy level up to get started. Whatever the coach picks that day just like the tunes, we will warm up with some stretching, jogging, or jump rope. We need to get the muscles warm and loose in order to get the most from the rest of class.
Its time to hit stuff! We glove up and get ready to work. Our bag system holds 30 punching bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you need to feel your fist move something when you throw a strike . Punching is the best stress reliever. There’s nothing better then winding up and punching a heavy bag as hard as you can and placing life’s issues on mute for the hour of class. The trainer will show you a combo that you will do for the whole round and try to perfect before you get out of breathe. Then between the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to teach you the next round’s combination. After a class or 2 you’ll start to appear like you know how to kick some butt. The more you train the better you will get, new students think a few of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are fighters, thats how awesome their technique has become.
When we are done on the heavy bags we switch it up and will have you pair up with another girl in class. One girl will hold pads for another. New students will have less complicated combinations while our students that have been with us longer have more advanced combinations. In your very first class you will see that holding pads isn’t a rest period . Its pretty much just as challenging as punching them.
The core of your body, that includes the abdominals and lower back muscles, will get an unintended work out just by doing the punches and kickboxing training. At this time the class does some abdominal moves. planks, sizzors, and russian twists, all fun stuff. All power stems from your core so this work will help you out in future sessions.
Last part of class we will have each member pick up a set of weights and do shoulder, arms, and lower body movements. Time to finish strong and push it class is almost finished. Our ladies also train with some weights in class. Pounding on the bag and holding pads already have your arms burnt out but there is no stopping now if you want tight and defined shoulders, back, and arms.
And your first training session is done. Props for pushing it and making it through. 60 minutes of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, jogging on a treadmill machine , or riding a bike.
