The ways to effectively punch, kick, and knee to optimize power and speed. Just because our teachers are fighters doesn’t mean you’ll have to fight. There is no contact in any of our cardio kickboxing classes so you won’t ever have to worry about having a bruise on your beautiful face. I will give you a walk through of a kickboxing class here at Westchester MMA.

The first 15 minutes

Our class starts with high energy music, whatever we are in the mood for that day, Rock, EDM, or some 90′s pop. We need to get the vibe and energy level up to get started. Which ever the instructor picks that day much like the music, we’ll warm up with some stretching, jogging, or jump rope. We perspire and elevate your heart rate to get the most from your training and help minimize the risk of injury.

Working on the Punching Bags

Time to hit stuff! We glove up and get ready to work. At Westchester MMA we have a bag mat with 30 punching bags, so everyone in class can have their own. Punching is a great stress reliever. There’s nothing more soothing then winding up and smashing a punching bag as hard as you can and putting life’s drama on mute for the 60 mins of class. The teacher will show you a combo that you will work on for the whole round and try to perfect before you get out of breathe. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just long enough to teach you the next round’s combination. After a few classes you’ll start to appear like you know what you’re doing. You will probably seem a little uncoordinated and off balance in the first session, regardless of your fitness level. Considering that the demanding combos will be different for your muscles, not just your brain. Though the routines usually are basic combinations, when all is said and done, it is a technique that improves with time. Plan to give yourself 3 or 4 classes before you feel like you know the techniques. Most workouts mix the same general movements in a different order or portion of the combination.

Buddy Drills

At this point we have the class pair up. Its not to make you square up with your parnter, now will hold for each other. Now you get to imitate a trainer holding mitts for their fighter then switch off and turn into the fighter hitting the mitts. Don’t get discouraged either, just like it takes a few sessions to feel balanced and smooth hitting the pads and punching bags, the same thing can be said for getting to know how to hold pads. After your very first or next workout it’ll be a breeze .

6 Pack Secrets

Your abs will already be feeling all the kicks and punches you have thrown. We still make time to train our ladies’ midsections and do some ab work. To get our girls ready for bikini season we’ll do all different ab work to help you get back in that bikini.

At the end we will have each girl grab a set of weights and do shoulder, arms, and lower body movements. This is a great way to build up some muscle while making your body to burn some extra calories. Our ladies also workout with some weights during class. Pounding on the punching bag and holding pads already have your arms like jelly but there is no bitching now if you want toned and defined shoulders, back, and arms.

And your first training session is done. Some light stretching and some words of encouragement from your coaches for pushing it through your first of many sessions here at Westchester MMA. a full class of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, jogging on a fitness treadmill, or riding a bike.
