Free Kickboxing Classes in Waccabuc

Our teachers are all fighters and they’ll show you proper technique to get the most strength and speed out of your kicks and punches. Get Ready to Work
We begin class with five minutes of dynamic stretching and then jump rope. Jump along to high energy music for three 3 minute rounds with some calisthenics in-between rounds. Priming your body by breaking a light sweat will help you get the most out of the rest of class.
Time to De-stress
Right now we strap up our boxing gloves and start hitting stuff. Our bag rack holds 30 punching bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you want to feel your fist hit something when you throw a strike . Pounding the crap out of a punching bag and acting like its your compliance officer or ex boyfriend is the greatest stress reducer. The coach will show you a combo that you’ll practice for the whole round and attempt to get it right before you get too tired. Then after the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to teach the next round’s combination. After a couple of classes you’ll start to look like you know how to kick some @ ss. You will probably seem a little uncoordinated and off base in your first workout, no matter what your fitness level. Since the challenging moves will be different for your body, not just your brain. Though the combos usually are comprised of pretty basic combos, when all is said and done, it is a technique that improves with time. Plan to give your body 3 or 4 sessions before you feel like you know the movements. Most sessions blend the same general movements in a different order or portion of the combination.
Following a few rounds on the boxing bags we then partner you and give you boxing pads or a kick shield. Now we perform partner exercises with one girl holding punching pads while the other is punching, kicking, bobbing, and weaving. New students will have simpler combos while our girls that have been with us longer have more advanced combos. In your very first workout you will realize that holding for a partner isn’t a break. Its pretty much just as hard as hitting them.
Time for abdominals, even though without realizing it you have been exercising your abs the full workout, corkscrewing your form on strikes and kicking. At this time we do some core work. side planks, sizzors, and russian twists, all fun stuff. Developing the core will help your movements improve, develop your power and endurance, and it’ll start working on your six pack abs.
And your first training session is done. Props for pushing it and making it through. an hour of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a treadmill , or riding a bike.
