Kickboxing gives you a sense of self-esteem. You will discover how to defend yourself all while losing body fat and getting in amazing shape. Our coaches are all fighters and they’ll teach you effective technique to get the most strength and speed from your kicks and punches. Just because our trainers are fighters doesn’t mean you will have to fight. There is no contact in any of our cardio kickboxing classes so you won’t ever have to worry about having a mark on your beautiful face. I’ll give you a breakdown of a kickboxing class here at WFC.
Stretching and Jump Rope
We begin class with 5 mins of dynamic stretching and jump rope. Three Three minute rounds of jump rope and in-between rounds we do some calisthenics and pushups. By starting off with fifteen minutes of stretching and warm-up exercises you will get more from your muscles for the next 45 minutes of class.
Working on the Punching Bags
Now we put on our boxing gloves and start punching stuff. Our bag system holds thirty punching bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you need to feel your fist strike something when you throw a blow. Punching is a great stress reliever. There’s nothing more fun then winding up and hitting a heavy bag as hard as you can and placing life’s drama on the back burner for the 60 mins of class. The trainer will show you a combination that you will practice for the entire round and attempt to get it right before you get out of breathe. Then between the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just long enough to teach the next round’s combination. After a class or 2 you’ll begin to appear like you know how to kick some @ ss. The more classes you take the better you will get, new students think some of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are competitors, thats how awesome their technique has gotten.
When we are all done on the bags we switch it up and have you pair up with another student in class. Now we perform partner drills with one student holding punching pads while the other is pounding away on them and bobbing and weaving in between. We split it up into new students and more advanced girls so the newer members have simpler more basic combos while the more advanced kick boxers get longer more intricate combinations. Don’t for a second think that holding mitts is time to slack, in your first workout you will realize very quick that holding pads is almost as tough as hitting them.
Gut buster time
The core of your body, that includes the abdominals and lower back muscles, will get an unintentional work out just by performing the punching and kickboxing training. Now we do some ab moves. side planks, sizzors, and russian twists, all fun stuff. All strength starts at your core so this work will help you out in future workouts.
We will have each girl pick up a set of dumbbells and do shoulder, arms, and lower body exercises. This is a great way to build some muscle while pushing your body to burn extra calories. Our women also train with some 10 lb weights during class. Punching will help tone your arms but after a few rounds on the boxing bag picking up a set of dumbbells and following along with the group will help you get the firm and toned arms you’re looking for.
Good job, you made it through your first class. Some light stretching and some words of encouragement from your fellow students for making it through your first of many workouts here at Westchester MMA. a full class of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, jogging on a running machine , or riding a bike.
