The rewards of switching your routine is definitely worth the new aches and pains. Kickboxing will switch up your workout and result in body toning and an increasing in aerobic endurance. Those two things are what everyone would like from their workout. You will workout like a fighter without having the fear of getting hit because our Women’s Only Cardio Kickboxing Classes are non contact. So instead of sparring with other students, the only thing you’ll be beating up is our bags or striking pads. I will walk you through a typical class at Westchester Cardio Kickboxing.


Stretching/Warm-up


Stretching for five minutes and then right into jumping rope. Jump to high energy music for 3 three minute rounds with some calisthenics in-between rounds. By starting off with fifteen minutes of stretching and warm-up exercises you will get more out of your muscles for the next 45 mins of class.


Working on the Heavy Bags


Time to punch stuff! We glove up and get ready to work. Our bag system holds 30 bags, this isn’t a taebo class, you want to feel your fist move something when you throw a strike . Kickboxing is a great stress reliever. There’s nothing more relaxing then winding up and punching a heavy bag as hard as you can and turning life’s problems on mute for the hour of class. We aren’t just blasting the boxing bag aimlessly, the teacher will take you through many combos of punches, knees, and kicks. You will probably seem a bit uncoordinated and off base in the first session, regardless of your fitness level. Considering that the demanding techniques will be different for your muscles, not just your brain. Though the rounds usually are relatively basic combinations, when all is said and done, it is a technique that gets better with time. Plan to give your body 3 or 4 classes before you feel like you know the movements. Most workouts blend the same general techniques in a different order or part of the combo.


After a couple rounds on the boxing bags we then partner students and give you focus mitts or a kick shield. One girl will hold pads for another. We divide the class into beginner and more advanced girls so the newer girls have simpler more basic combos while the more experienced kick boxers get longer more advanced combinations. Don’t think that holding pads is time to slack, in your first session you will realize very quick that holding pads is almost as tough as hitting them.


Time for Abs


Your abs will already be feeling all the kicks and punches you have thrown. In our classes we still make time to isolate our core and do some abdominal exercises. To get our girls ready for the beach we’ll do all different ab work to help you get back in that swimsuit.


Last part of class we will have each girl pick up a set of weights and do shoulder, arms, and lower body movements. Time to finish strong and push through class is almost done. The Last thing we do is grab a pair of weights. Pounding on the bag and holding pads already have your arms burnt out but there is no quiting now if you want tight and defined shoulders, back, and arms.

And your first training session is done. Props for pushing it and making it through. 60 minutes of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, jogging on a fitness treadmill, or riding a bike.
