Stretching/Warm-up


We start class with five mins of dynamic stretching and afterwards jump rope. Jump to high energy music for three three minute rounds with some calisthenics in-between rounds. By beginning with fifteen minutes of stretching and warming up movements you will get more out of your muscles for the next 45 mins of class.


Bag Work


Time to punch stuff! We glove up and get ready to go. At Westchester Fight Club we have a bag area with 30 boxing bags, so every person in class can have their own. Pounding the crap out of a bag and acting like its your compliance officer or ex boyfriend is the greatest stress relief. The coach will show you a combo that you’ll do for the full round and attempt to get it right before you get too tired. Then between the round you’ll catch a quick breather, just enough time to show you the next round’s combo. After a few classes you’ll start to look like you know what you are doing. The more classes you take the better you will become, new members think a few of our women in cardio kickboxing classes are fighters, thats how good their kickboxing has gotten.


At this point we have the class partner up. Don’t worry you are not attacking each other but you will hold pads or focus mitts for each other. Now you get to pretend to be a trainer holding mitts for his fighter then change off and end up being the fighter bashing the mitts. Don’t get discouraged either, just like it takes a few sessions to feel balanced and smooth hitting the mitts and bags, the same thing can be said for getting to know how to hold pads. By your 2nd or third workout it will be a cakewalk for you.


Abdominals


The whole body motion of throwing a punch or kick already gives you a great ab and core workout. In our classes we still make time to work on our core and do some ab work. To get our kickboxers ready for summer we’ll do all different exercises to help you get back in that bikini.

And your first training session is done. Props for pushing it and making it through. an hour of kickboxing burns more calories then lifting weights, running on a running machine , or riding a bike.
